Like we do for the Grand Slams, us at LastWordOnTennis are here to predict the biggest matches of the year for you. At the ATP Finals, that means every match. The second day’s matches feature Roger Federer vs Alexander Zverev and Jack Sock vs Marin Cilic. Picking these matches are myself (Yesh Ginsburg), Ryan Schick, and Brett Margolies.

ATP Finals Day 3 Predictions

Jack Sock vs Marin Cilic

Brett:
I don’t know how Marin Cilic will respond after his 3rd set collapse yesterday, but everything seemed to be going well until he got to the finish line. The court seemed to suit his game and did look comfortable for most of the match. Even though Jack Sock is 2-0 against Cilic head-to-head, including a straight-set win at the 2016 US Open, I don’t see him winning. This is virtually an elimination match with the loser falling to 0-2 in group play; look for the more experienced player in Cilic to get the win.
Prediction: Cilic in 2

Ryan:
Sock impressed in his first ever Tour Finals against Federer yesterday, giving him confidence going into this match. Cilic has been here before and has won on the biggest stages. This will be a battle of huge strokes, with Cilic winning a close one with his game more suited for the hard courts.
Prediction: Cilic in 3

Yesh:
Sock acquitted himself well in his opening match, not being overawed by his opponent or the occasion. Cilic isn’t in the best of form, and if Sock can replicate his level of play from Sunday he should be able to pull off the upset.

Roger Federer vs Alexander Zverev

Brett:
Alexander Zverev showed he has the ability to beat Federer on the big stage, including a win in the finals of the Rogers Cup over the summer. Zverev looked to be in good form yesterday, but will need to raise his level to beat Federer. I think Federer just looks way too comfortable right now, and playing too good for anything to get in his way. This will probably be a high quality match, but Federer is just to good at the moment.
Prediction: Federer in 3

Ryan:
With Nadal not at 100%, this may be the best match of the week. The ageless wonder, greatest ever, Roger Federer, against the young sensation Alexander Zverev. Zverev chose to skip the NextGen Finals to prepare and it proved to be the right call with his win over Cilic. Federer has continued his incredible form into this tournament, and has shown no reason to slip up at all. Zverev will battle Fed, but Federer will find a way to exploit just enough weaknesses to win a third set tiebreaker.
Prediction: Federer in 3

Yesh:
Federer looked healthy in his straight-sets opening win over Jack Sock, even if he wasn’t entirely dominant. Still, healthy is all that Federer needs to be to win this match. He is just so much better on these fast indoor courts than anyone else in this group.
Prediction: Federer in 2
